Over/Under cable coiling

Over/Under cables

Want a strike against you as a member of the crew?
Make a mess of every cable you try to coil up and stow.
Like almost all things there is a proper way to wrap a cable after use.
When coiled correctly the cable will stow in an efficient maner and uncoil smartly and quickly.
Below is how to coil a cable using the "over/under" method.

If you're right handed cup your right hand as the hose cradle shown here.
Basically you are going wrap the cable as you would a hose.

Start by doing the natural thing, drape the cable through your fingers.

For the next coil this is where you must do what isn't natural.
 Twist your wrist

  As a general rule:
  one coil no twist(over)
  next coil twist(under)

Often based on a cables history:
Sometimes multiple twists or no-twists are called for.

With "over" the end of the coil is over the previous coil.
With "under" the end of the coil comes out under the previous coil.
