Welcome to My Resume
Hello! I'm Jim Boston, and this site is a way for you to get to know me beyond the typical resume format. Here are the key highlights of my career. You'll also find links to projects, articles, and stories that showcase my skills.
All the linked websites are my own.
While I do not pretend to be a web designer or developer, I took up building websites by writing my own code. I like to understand how things work at a more than superficial level. It helped me get a better grasp of HTML structure, CSS styling, and JavaScript functionality, and learn how they all interact.
Today, working around websites is almost a must. It's a tool. I wanted to be able to use that tool.
As you know, webpage builders abstract much of the complexity, meaning you're not learning how the underlying technologies work. I know obfuscation is the thing today. But not if someone, like me, is trying to learn. Over time, this can make you dependent on tools and limit your growth as a developer (not that I consider myself one).
And I already have enough to limit my growth in that area. I have always liked troubleshooting. I also feel my problem‐solving skills improve as I tackle coding challenges. This is essential for growth in the tech industry.
Don't get me wrong, I'll use the tools that make things simpler today; did I hear ChatGPT? I just want to know how to find workarounds when those tools do not perform as needed.
